Revlon Cherries in the Snow Lipstick Review & Swatch | Lipstick Monday!

Cherries in the Snow by Revlon is one of those lipsticks that will, in my opinion, always be a classic.  The makeup industry are constantly bringing us new shades (much to the pain of my bank balance!) but very few colours stand the test of time.  Cherries in the Snow was first released in 1953 by Revlon and is a real classic.

In my opinion, nothing is more beautiful than a classic red lipstick.  There really is a colour for everyone and I suit a red with a pink undertone. Cherries in the Snow is the perfect red for me as it is just that. A cool/blue red mixed with raspberry pink.  This is the prettiest lustrous colour that contrasts against my fair skin tone and dark hair perfectly.

Cherries in the Snow is very heavily pigmented and saturates my lips in colour.  Application is always a dream as the colour glides on effortlessly.  The lipstick does have a lustrous sheen and I usually avoid vibrant colours in this finish for fear of lipstick teeth, but I don’t find this to be a problem with this particular colour.

Perhaps one of the best things about Revlon Cherries in the Snow is the price at £7.99.  An absolute bargain for a stand out lipstick in both formula and colour.  I would thoroughly recommend adding a little vintage glamour to your collection and taking a look at Cherries in the Snow next time you pass a Revlon stockist.

Cherries in the Snow (and yes, I totally would buy this shade for the cute name alone!) is the perfect way to brighten my mood on a Monday!

Have you tried this classic red? I would love to hear your thoughts!

NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick in shade Tea & Cookies Review & Swatch | Lipstick Monday!

It has been a very exciting week for me!  NYX has officially landed in Boots stores on the British high street! For those that don’t know, NYX offer niche products at competitively low prices while still being of an excellent quality.  I was a little pushed for time so had to glance over the counter quickly so my first purchase was this little beauty.  The NYX Liquid Suede Lipstick in Tea & Cookies. Being a big Kat Von D liquid lipstick fan, this product had high standards to meet.  So, how did it compare?  ….. Very well indeed!

The packaging is rather basic, and nothing special but does the job nonetheless! The applicator is soft and the product glides onto the lips effortlessly.  Tea & Cookies is a soft beige pink that is just the right amount of pink to stop it being too pale for my colouring.  The long narrow applicator makes applying to the contour of my lips easy.  The matte lipstick was not too drying, and did not settle into the lines on my lips anymore than what was expected with a matte liquid lipstick.

The lipstick unfortunately did not last very long, and transferred easily on my tea cup. It lost the colour a little in the fullest part of my lip, migrating slowly towards my lip line after a few hours, but that said in this natural shade I found this was not overly noticeable and priced at £6.50, I really don’t think you can ask for more!

I would love to hear from you if you too have recently discovered NYX has set up home in your local Boots store! Have you made any purchases?!

L’Oreal Infallible Matte Max Lipstick Like a Virgin 002 Review & Swatch | Lipstick Monday!

So, here we are again! The end of another Monday and the chance I get to sit down and share with you all the lipstick that has got me through the first day of my working week.  Today, in honour of the sun well and truly coming out I decided to try my new L’Oreal Infallible Matte Max Lipstick in Like a Virgin – a lovely summary pink shade.  This new concept of lipstick really excited me when I was browsing the shelves of my local Boots.  I love my matte lipsticks for longevity so couldn’t help but buy one to try out!

Like a Virgin 002 is a pretty pink that goes on much lighter than it appears.  They contain micro-oils that leave your lips feeling velvety soft.  Before using the lipstick, I apply a thin layer of concealer over my lips.  This gives the colour something to ‘grip’ to and makes the colour a little more intense.  The applicator has a lovely soft sponge tip, and I lightly tap all over my lips building up the colour to my desired finish.  Creating ombre lips would also be easy with this product, and I would be interested in buying another colour to try mixing them.

Now to the important part.  Yes, it gives a very pretty delicate finish but unfortunately it just doesn’t last very long! This is a real shame as everything else about this product is fantastic! That said, I would still purchase again but I would recommend buying a darker or brighter shade than you want – to ensure the colour stays put or at least fades to still leave a hint of the colour it once was!

You can purchase the L’Oreal Infallible Matte Max Lipstick for £6.99 from L’Oreal stockists.

Benefit Gimme Brow Light/Medium Review | February Product Of The Month

Apologies for the ever so slightly late product of the month for February, but I am sure you will totally understand when I say it was because I was waiting to get my eyebrows threaded before sharing it with you!

I have brunette hair, yet for some reason very fair brows.  It was only in recent years that I started to colour my brows with product to try and help define my naturally fair brows against the contrast of my dark hair.  I couldn’t help but wonder why I wasn’t doing it years before! Personally speaking, I am not a fan of the dark, heavy, almost painted on brow that seems to have become popular over recent years , and that was what had initially put me off trying this product.  However, as my brows are particularly sparse and fair, I decided I would try this out and was delighted when I was given this as a gift at Christmas.

Benefit Gimme Brow is available in two colours – Light / Medium and Medium / Dark. My shade is Light / Medium which is perfect for my fair complexion. It is a nice natural brown colour that translates well once applied.

This brow volumizing fibre gel promises to adhere to the skin and the hairs for fuller looking brows.  To use, I gently stroke the brush tip along the brow to define the shape.  I then use a brow comb to brush the fibres through the hair and neaten up the finish.

My reasons for awarding this my product of the month are not only because I think the product is easy to use, but also because of the ability to actually stay where I apply it! I don’t know about you, but I have very oily skin that gets worse as the day progresses (I can only thank working in a warm office environment for this!) and I have found on the odd occasion I have used other products, that the product works its way across the centre of my brows! The Benefit Gimme Brow Gel will not create a full brow look, and will not create  hairs that are not there, however it does thicken up any brow hairs you have that are in need of a little extra volume.  I think this is a really natural way to enhance brows and for that reason, is a winner in my book.

You can purchase Benefit Gimme Brow for £18.50 from Benefit counters or stockists.  You get 3g of product and I have used it more or less every day since Christmas and I have plenty left.

I hope you found this post useful.

Max Factor Colour Elixir Marilyn Berry Lipstick Review & Swatch | Lipstick Monday!

Max Factor Marilyn Berry Elixir Lipstick Review Swatch

Sometimes red is the only lip colour that will do, and today was certainly one of those days! I did not want a statement matte lip, so today was not the day for Ruby Woo or MAC Red.  Instead, I wanted a glossy soft red that was relatively easy to wear.

I decided to treat myself to the Max Factor Marilyn Berry Lipstick and Red Rush Lip Liner when out shopping yesterday.  It was on offer in Boots and I simply could not resist!

The Max Factor Marilyn collection contains 4 reds that make finding your perfect shade so easy as they each are targeted to us girls with a variety of different skin tones. They include orange, blue and purple.  I chose Marilyn Berry as I have cool undertones.  This lipstick is so easy to wear as it is so nourishing.  It contains grape seed and butters that simply melt onto my lip.

First I applied the Red Rush Lip Liner.  This liner is so soft and was easy to use. I applied it by lining first and then shading in the entire lip.  It has a gel like texture which was pleasantly surprising as usually lip liners are quite drying.  Once I had lined my lips I applied the lipstick.  I did not use a lip brush as the shape of the bullet made it easy to apply.

The lipstick lasted a couple of hours before the need for re-application. I am not sure the formula is buildable as it is so sheer and glossy, but this is what appeals to me as sometimes a statement matte lip isn’t always the look we want.

I would definitely recommend taking a look at the Max Factor Marilyn collection.  I will always regret not being quick enough in snapping up the MAC Marilyn Monroe collection so I couldn’t resist investing into this one!

Boots currently have a brilliant offer on this range. The lipstick is priced at £7.99 and the lip liner £4.99, and if you buy one product you get the second half price! There has never been a better time to treat yourself!

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick Happy Nude Year Swatch Review Lipstick Monday

To kick start Lipstick Monday in 2016, what better shade than Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick in shade 09 Happy Nude Year?! I bought this shade a few weeks ago and wore it for the first time recently.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick Happy Nude Year Swatch Review Lipstick Monday

I have reviewed a couple of these velvet matte lipsticks and I am always impressed with the finish.  As previously mentioned, the colour payoff is exceptional – the colour translates very well on application.  I also love how moisturising this shade is for a matte finish.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick Happy Nude Year Swatch Review Lipstick Monday

Happy Nude Year is a lovely pink shade that is very easy to carry off.  A nude lip can be one of the hardest colours to get just right as a shade too dark or light can be very unflattering.  This shade however is very soft and gives a lovely bright finish.  I imagine this pretty shade would suit a wide range of skin tones.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick Happy Nude Year Swatch Review Lipstick Monday

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick is widely available and is priced at £8.99.  It is the perfect shade for adding to your collection to give your face a fresh look this January. And the best bit? For such a lovely colour and finish it won’t break the bank!

Happy New Year to all my readers and followers.  Lets hope 2016 is filled with lots of happiness.

Bourjois Rouge Velvet Hot Pepper 03 Lipstick Review & Swatch | Lipstick Monday!

Bourjois Rouge Velvet Hot Pepper Lipstick Review and Swatch

With a nod to the festive season, todays Lipstick Monday post had to be red! You may remember in last weeks post I shared with you all a review of Bourjois Rouge Velvet lipstick in Peach Club.

Bourjois Rouge Velvet Hot Pepper Lipstick Review and Swatch

The formula is exactly the same as my review last Monday, so I won’t touch upon that too much other than to reiterate that it is wonderfully soft and not at all drying for a matte lipstick.

On my skin tone (cool) I found Hot Pepper to be just a little too orange toned for my liking.  It is however, a very bright vivid red that will definitely get you noticed.

Bourjois Rouge Velvet Hot Pepper Lipstick Review and Swatch

As I found last week, the lipstick lasted well into the day and survived  a few hot drinks.  I think this is mainly because I applied it in thin layers to achieve the desired look.

Bourjois Rouge Velvet Hot Pepper Lipstick Review and Swatch

Bourjois Hot Pepper Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick is priced at £8.99. There is currently an offer on at Boots where you only need to spend £15.00 on Bourjois products to get a set of full size makeup essentials including this lipstick! Now thats an offer I simply could not refuse!
