NARS Steven Klein Killer Heels Lipstick Coffret Set | Lipstick Monday!

NARS Steven Klein Lipstick Coffret Set Fire Down Below, Mayflower, Little Darling, Joyous Red, Jungle Red Review Swatch

For today’s Lipstick Monday post, I am sharing with you all a little something different.  As it’s a Bank Holiday why share one lipstick with you when I can share 5! I was lucky enough to be given this Steven Klein gift set for Christmas, and wanted to show you all what you get before it is too late to buy for yourself.

NARS have collaborated with photographer Steven Klein to create a collection of highly pigmented colours.  This particular gift set includes colours that are part of the regular line.  I love this, as there is nothing worse than falling in love with a limited edition lipstick only to find you can’t buy it again, right?!

Included in this set are 5 small (1.7g)  lipsticks.  The shades you get are:

  • Little Darling
  • Mayflower
  • Joyous Red
  • Jungle Red
  • Fire Down Below

What I love about this set is that each colour is wearable and I potentially would re-purchase them in full size.  The only colour that I think is not really worth purchasing is Little Darling, purely because it is so pale it hardly shows up.

Above are the swatches of the lipsticks.  From left to right are Little Darling, Mayflower, Joyous Red, Jungle Red and Fire Down Below.

Little Darling is a nude shade, and when I say nude I mean nude.  There is no hint of pink or brown.  This shade was hugely popular on initial release and was very hard to find.  On my pale skin it does not translate all that well and gives an almost ‘foundation lip’ finish.  My natural lip colour has a dark pigmentation so this is not all that flattering.  However, as it is so sheer it will be perfect for layering over another lipstick.  I am thinking my MAC Velvet Teddy will be the perfect base for this shade as it is a heavy colour that needs that little extra ‘pop’.

Mayflower is my perfect nude that is not hard to wear and a ‘my lips but better shade’.  It does have very finely milled glitter in the lipstick, but this is not off-putting.  It adds a nice shine to my lips without the need for a gloss.

Joyous Red is a lovely orange red that is strangely wearable! Orange hues in lipsticks are usually not my friend but this particular shade is (literally!) a joy to wear! It is conservative and safe to wear in an office environment.

Jungle Red is the colour I was most excited about trying! I regretted not purchasing this earlier on in the year.  This is a lovely warm but soft red that is so easy to pull off.  It is elegant and classy and I am tempted to say is my new favourite red! NARS, this is sheer perfection!

Finally is a shade that has surprised me.  Fire Down Below is a deep oxblood red that gives the face a lovely warmth.  I am pale but I can carry this shade off well. I am looking forward to dressing this up and playing with it over the next few days.

I hope you found my review of the NARS Steven Klein lipstick set useful.  I can’t wait to incorporate these lipsticks into my makeup this week (hopefully, I may even manage to apply them a little better than I have for the pictures!)

This set is still available and is priced at £29.00. I highly recommend trying it out.

These lipsticks applied smoothly and were not drying.  They applied very sheer and you are able to build up the look of the lipstick    depending on the occasion.

Hope you enjoyed todays Lipstick Monday post.  A little different to the usual format but I couldn’t wait to share with you all this particular collection.

How To Make Sure Your Eye Makeup Stays Put | NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base – Review

NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base Review Swatch

For those of you – shall we say, ‘blessed’ with oily skin, you will no doubt feel my pain when it comes to applying eye makeup.  Who knew eyelids could get oily?! I certainly didn’t!  I have to work really hard to make sure my makeup stays in place and an eyeshadow primer is a must in my daily routine.  Having well and truly jumped head first onto the NARS bandwagon I decided I would treat myself to the Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base.  This product is a polymer and mineral based blend that help with making our eyeshadow or eyeliner stick exactly where it should.

NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base Review Swatch

The primer comes in a tube with an applicator, much resembling a lipgloss.  I don’t however like to apply the primer directly to my eyelids as I don’t think this is particularly hygienic.  Instead, I pop a little on my hand and then apply with my fingertips.  As you can see from the swatch above, the product is a cream but disappears once blended into the eyelid (as pictured below).

I am impressed with this primer and it has become my new ‘must use’ product in my morning routine. I love how it makes my eye shadow colours brighter and more intense.  It has also stopped the eyeliner smudges I was getting that were becoming an almost daily occurrence. This, paired with the fact it has also prevented my eyeshadows from creasing is definitely good news.  There is nothing more disappointing than blending your eyeshadows only to find they have separated and moved up to your eyebrows half way through the day!

For extra staying power, I can recommend using the Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray.  A brilliant combination, and well worth a try!

NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base is priced at £19.50 and is available from NARS counters and at various online stores nationwide.

I would love to hear from you if decide to try this product out, or indeed if you can recommend any other tips for oily skin!

NARS Dolce Vita Lipstick – Review | Lipstick Monday

NARS Dolce Vita Lipstick Review

Lipstick Monday is here again and for today’s post I am sharing with you a little review of the NARS Dolce Vita Lipstick.  I was running slightly late this morning so wanted a lipstick that was easy to apply and would make me look polished.  Dolce Vita ticked all the boxes, and as it was the first time I had used this lipstick it certainly brightened up what was a cold, wet and otherwise very dull morning.

NARS Dolce Vita Lipstick Review Swatch

Dolce Vita is a beautiful natural dusty rose colour.  The sheer formula glides on effortlessly and leaves behind pretty lips with an almost gloss like finish.  I particularly love how NARS lipstick feel on my lips,  they include a blend of conditioners that actively hydrate, nourish and protect my lips.

The downside to this colour being so sheer is the longevity.  It really didn’t last much past my morning coffee but I guess that is the downside to any sheer colour.

NARS Dolce Vita Lipstick Review Swatch

The NARS Dolce Vita lipstick is priced at £20.00.  It is a great colour that suits most people and is certainly very popular in the blogging world. It is a beautiful elegant colour that I can’t wait to wear again.  I wasn’t sure at first when I looked at the bullet this morning, it looked a little ’90’s brown’ but I am so glad I bought this colour.  It is a great addition to my ever growing collection!

Hope you enjoyed my second Lipstick Monday post! Suddenly, my Mondays don’t feel quite as bad!

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer – Review

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer - Review

A few months ago I was introduced to the NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation.  It’s safe to say I have not looked back since.  I love the way it enhances my complexion without looking too heavy and most of all I love the shade! It really is perfect for me. Check out my foundation review here.

Like the All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation, the Radiant Creamy Concealer also had some fantastic reviews so I couldn’t wait to try it out.

I bought my concealer in shade Vanilla. A shade that NARS say has a tiny cast of pink for the pale complexion.  They say this is a creamy concealer with hydrating, multiaction skincare benefits and light diffusing technology to create a softer, smoother complexion. It is free of parabens, sulfates and phthalates.

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer - Review

I apply the concealer by dispensing a small amount onto my hand using the applicator.  I then gently pat a small amount under my eyes, around my nose and lips.  I also use the Beauty Blender Micro Mini to ensure a flawless finish under my eyes.  The formula is easy to blend and simply vanishes as you can see from the images below. The first image shows a swatch on initial application.  The second image shows how the concealer vanishes when blended, and how it has taken some general pinky pigmentation out of the skin.

I am really pleased I bought this concealer.  It works really well with my foundation and does obscure and blur any dark circles or redness on my skin.  It is buildable depending on the level of coverage you need whilst still appearing natural which is a really winner in my books.

The NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer is widely available from NARS online, department stores and Sephora. It is expensive at £22.00 but I feel for the level of coverage and versatility of the product it is worth the price.

Nars Barbarella Lipstick – Review

It appears that us Nars fans are in good company.  The makeup artists behind hit show Mad Men use Nars Barbarella lipstick to create Betty Drapers everyday look. Being a big fan of the show myself, when I discovered this I couldn’t help but buy it.  Well…If it makes Don Draper swoon it’s worth every penny!!

This lipstick is from the satin collection from Nars. They promise that these lipsticks are enriched with Vitamin E, have a satin finish, are long wearing and infused with lip conditioners to provide comfortable wear and give a lovely smooth silky colour. In fact, these lipsticks have patented blends of conditioners and antioxidants that make these extra special.

The colour is an orange peach toned lipstick that is very buildable- one slick gives a lovely glossy sheen whilst two to three gives a peachy colour that is surprisingly flattering against my fair skin tone and dark hair.

The swatches below show how this colour transfers.  The top swatch is one layer, the bottom is two.

This lipstick lasts for about 2-3 hours which I feel is quite standard. It is a very pretty colour and personally speaking is surprisingly easy to carry off for being a coral shade! If you are looking to add a peach / coral shade to your collection then I would recommend this one!

This is my first Nars lipstick and I am very impressed with it’s finish.  This particular lipstick is sheer – I usually favour matte lipsticks for longevity but this certainly packs a punch in it’s own way.

This lipstick is 3.4g and priced at £20 from Nars counters nationwide.

Like any other beauty addict I have my eye on my next colour already – Nars Dolce Vita.  Can you recommend any other lipsticks from the Nars collection to try? I would love to hear from you.

Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation- Review

Nars Foundation

Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation

I recently decided it was time to try out a new foundation.  I have been a fan of Makeup Forever HD foundation for many years now, stocking up whenever I visit America.  So I did what any other makeup addict would do and took to blogs to discover whats new to the market.  It was here I discovered the Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation.

I stopped by a Nars counter at a Beauty Hall and was matched for a colour.  I must admit, the colour picked out for me – Deauville (light 4) was a little darker than my usual 117 shade of Makeup Forever HD foundation, but nevertheless I put my faith in the associate and purchased it.

Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation-Shade Deauville

So, what are my thoughts on the foundation? Well, I’m very impressed! The bottle comes with a pump and I understand from other bloggers that this is a much welcomed improvement to the Nars Sheer Glow foundation.  You have to shake the bottle before application and the foundation is remarkably thinner than that of other brands I have used but I feel this helps with blending the product into my skin.  It is important to wear a primer underneath the foundation but I always do that anyway.  One thing I was unsure about was that it recommends I start by warming the foundation in my hands, then working with the fingers applying a small amount in the centre of the face and  then apply by pressing onto the skin working outward in sections.  This is quite a new method of application for me as I am a brush girl but I have tried this and it does give a nice finish.  However, I do like to finish the application with a brush and like to lightly buff around the skin using my Marc Jacobs Face II brush to give a softer finish.

The foundation does have good staying power and it still has a nice finish even after 8 hours in a hot office environment.  It does cover my imperfections well and gives a nice sheen to my skin without looking too much. I would really like to try a face powder from the Nars range to compliment this foundation.

Overall, I’m glad I  have given this a go and would buy it again.  Has it taken over from my Makeup Forever HD foundation as being my favourite? Not quite, but it has shamed me into realising after all these years I have been buying the wrong shade!

Have you tried this foundation? Do you apply yours with a brush or by using your fingers? I would love to hear your thoughts!
